Allahabad High Court has sought acknowledgment from the board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) within a period of six weeks on a PIL striving a direction for “uniform criteria of age determination for cricket players during selection”.
Yesterday the Court issued the notices on a PIL filed by Prem Kumar Singh alleging the different processes for selection as “discriminatory and hence bad in eyes of law”.
The petitioner’s counsel Manjeev Shukla alleged that in some places a player’s age was determined through a medical examination, while at others it was based on documents.
The plea which has been filed stated: “…petitioner would like to take indulgence of this Hon’ble Court in respect of deteriorating condition of cricket game in State of U.P. on account of corruption, favoritism and illegalities committed by the persons whose personal interest has been vested and to achieve their ill motive and gain undue benefits by using the game of cricket whole by the disqualified persons. The petitioner is a person interested in improvement of the cricket game and he has only concern to select the players on merits.”

The spirit of sports will be destroyed if such ill management will not be taken care of, innumerous times the biased system has created severe circumstances for the eligible candidates who have actually worked hard for their success, but on the other hand, the opposite side should also be given their chance to state their point.
